PAD London 2018

From the modern to the historic, from the minuscule to the monumental, PAD London showcases masterpieces across design, art, antiquities, tribal art and collectible jewelry. In 2018’s edition of the art and design fair, 68 galleries from 12 countries will be on show with both returning exhibitors and 10 new participants.

Patrick Perrin, the founder of PAD fairs, said “I look forward to discovering the presentations of our new galleries: Roman designer Achille Salvagni, modern art expert Hélène Bailly, ceramicist Karen Swami, and a fine selection of international jewelry galleries. In this category, we can expect a dazzling array of contemporary pieces by Lorenz Bäumer and Walid Akkad from Paris, as well as G. by Glenn Spiro and Valery Demure from London.”

Nature and design cross paths at this year’s PAD. Designers and artists who are experimenting with organic matter feature prominently in the fair, reflecting a growing interest in bio-design and eco-materials. Peter Petrou will be showing the seaweed-based worked of Irish artist and furniture maker Sasha Sykes. Rowan Mersh’s laboriously-crafted wall-mounted sculptural assemblages will be shown by Gallery FUMI. Mersh’s pieces are hand-assembled from thousands of individual components which range from windowpane oyster shell discs and dentalium shell through to sticks manufactured in wood with a coating of marble dust. Marcin Rusak will present a series of glass vases created with flowers inlaid into them which turn to ash during the glassblowing process. Marléne Huissoud’s furniture created in collaboration with silkworms will also feature, presented by Sarah Myerscough.

Covetable 20th-century art and design on display include pieces by Josef Hoffman, Ettore Sottsass, Mathieu Matégot, George Condo and Damien Hirst amongst many other notable names. The focus on jewelry sees whimsical architectural works from Lorenz Bäumer and Lebanese designer Walid Akkad’s balancing minimalism with opulence with fine jewels. The tribal antiquities section offers an international array of pieces ranging from Ancient Greece and the Congo.
